Our story

In the summer of 2022 Suzan studied Arabic in Palestine and became good friends with her teacher Maryam. They continued their one-on-one classes online and in the winter of 2022 and the summer of 2023 Suzan returned to Palestine. Together they visited Hebron, Jerusalem, Ramallah and Nablus.

Suzan is a certified teacher for adults learning Dutch in Belgium.

Maryam holds a bachelor’s degree in English and has more than 10 years experience of teaching Arabic to foreigners.

They decided to join their strengths and so the idea of a language school was born.

The name Maryam reflects our vision of a strong Palestinian woman founding her own business, her own school.

FAQs

  • Online learning is a very easy and flexible way to learn a language. You get the same advantages: a teacher talking to you, correcting you, giving you advice and practising with you. You can take the class from anywhere you want. Maybe at home, maybe at work after hours, maybe in a cafe.

  • You will receive a personalised approach, tailored to your needs. Your teacher will be a native speaker.

  • Your teacher will receive fair compensation for her expertise. Your teacher will be a Palestinian woman living in Palestine, where the living cost is as high as in Europe.

  • Learning a language requires time and commitment. Ten hours is the minimum for you to decide if you really want to learn Arabic. It is also the minimum for the teacher to be able to understand your level and needs and to provide a personalised teaching plan.

  • We offer a free trial lesson to see if you and the teacher match and to give you the chance to ask questions and decide afterwards.

  • Yes! We offer personalised trips to Palestine. You can combine studying Arabic with visiting the most important cities in Palestine, learning how to cook Palestinian food, exploring local businesses and much more. Please get in touch with us if you are interested.

  • That is no problem, we will teach you. We will provide you with a method that gives you the opportunity to practise in class and on your own. You will receive feedback from our teacher.

  • For beginners we recommend two teaching hours, for intermediate learners we recommend one. Everything depends on your time and wishes. Your teacher will advise you.

Robbe (30), Kortrijk, Belgium

“After learning Arabic in an adult school in Belgium, I was fortunate to meet Suzan and Maryam during my holidays. I felt like I had progressed my written skills but I was lacking in verbal skills.

After an introductory meeting with Maryam in which I told her about my goals and desires for the classes, I was eager to start my personalized journey into the Arabic language. In a professional way we explored my strengths and weaknesses in my Arabic understanding and mastery and gradually filled in the missing knowledge and skills.

After some online classes with Maryam I felt more at ease using Arabic verbally and have since progressed greatly. I would recommend Maryam Language School for anyone aiming to learn Arabic generally or having a specific goal in mind concerning the Arabic language.”
